About TubeBlock

TubeBlock exists because YouTube has no real block button for channels. We wanted a small, honest tool that hides what you never want to see and nothing more.

Why we built it

On YouTube you can tell the recommendation system that you are not interested, but you cannot simply say "never show me this channel again". "Don't recommend channel" only makes a channel appear less in recommendations, the same channels can return through search and Subscriptions, and there is no list of what you have hidden. The same goes for topics: a viewer cannot block a word, and there is no switch that turns Shorts off.

TubeBlock fills that gap in the browser. It reads the cards YouTube shows you and hides the ones that match your rules: channels, keywords and Shorts. Your rules are a plain list that you can see, edit, export and delete.

Our principles

Honest about limits

Every page says where TubeBlock works and where it does not. It does not work in the YouTube phone and TV apps, and we will not pretend otherwise.

No account, no tracking

No sign-up and no analytics in the extension. Your lists stay in your browser; we never see them.

Small and focused

Three jobs done well: block channels, filter keywords, hide Shorts. Plus a PIN and import/export to keep it practical.

Free

TubeBlock is free to use. If we ever add something paid, the free features stay free and the rules are published first.

What TubeBlock is not

  • It is not made by, affiliated with or endorsed by YouTube or Google.
  • It is not an ad blocker and does not touch ads.
  • It is not a parental control system: a determined person can switch an extension off. The PIN protects the settings from casual changes.

Who runs it

TubeBlock and tubeblock.app are operated by Captain Software Limited, Unit B, 11/F, 23 Thomson Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong SAR China. We are a small software company that builds browser tools. Questions, bug reports and ideas are welcome at info@tubeblock.app; see the contact page.
