Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains what information is processed when you visit the tubeblock.app website (the "Website") and when you use the TubeBlock browser extension (the "Extension"). The Website and the Extension are operated by Captain Software Limited, Unit B, 11/F, 23 Thomson Road, Wan Chai, Hong Kong SAR China ("we", "us", "our"). You can reach us at info@tubeblock.app.

Short version

  • The Extension collects nothing. Your blocked channels, keywords, switches and PIN are stored in your own browser and are never sent to us.
  • The Extension contains no analytics, no tracking and no advertising code, and it does not load code from the internet.
  • The Website uses Google Analytics 4 to count visits and see which pages are useful. It sets analytics cookies. There is no advertising and no advertising cookies. Our web server keeps standard technical logs.
  • We do not sell or rent personal data to anyone.

The Extension

The Extension runs only on www.youtube.com in your desktop browser. It reads the video cards that YouTube displays to you in order to hide those that match your rules. This happens entirely inside your browser.

Your settings (the list of blocked channels with their name, handle and ID, your keywords with their whole-word option, the Hide Shorts switch and, if you set one, a hashed PIN) are saved in your browser's extension storage (chrome.storage.sync, or chrome.storage.local when the sync storage is full).

If you have turned on sync in your browser, the browser itself may copy this storage to your other computers signed in to the same browser profile. That sync is provided by your browser vendor (for example Google, Microsoft, Brave or Opera) under its own privacy terms. We do not receive, see or store this data.

The Extension makes no network requests of its own: it does not send what you watch, what you block or anything else to us or to third parties.

When you use Export, the Extension creates a file on your computer. That file stays with you unless you decide to share it.

Removing the Extension from your browser deletes its stored settings from that browser profile.

Extension permissions

  • storage: to save your lists and settings in the browser, as described above.
  • Access to www.youtube.com: to find and hide video cards that match your rules and to add the Block channel button. The Extension has no access to other websites.

The Website

tubeblock.app is a static website. It has no user accounts, no forms and no comments.

Server logs: like almost every web server, ours records technical data for each request: IP address, date and time, the page or file requested, the response status, the referring page and the browser's user-agent string. We use these logs only to keep the Website running, to fix errors and to protect it against abuse. Logs are kept for 30 days and then deleted, and they are not combined with other data to identify you.

Downloads: when you download the Extension's zip file, the same technical log entry is created as for any other file.

Cookies: the Website itself sets no cookies; the only cookies are the Google Analytics cookies described in the Analytics section below.

Analytics

The Website uses Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC. It helps us understand how many people visit the Website, which pages they read and whether the install instructions work. It is used on the Website only — never in the Extension.

Google Analytics sets first-party cookies (named _ga and _ga_<ID>) and collects information such as the pages you view, the time of the visit, the referring site, your browser and device type, screen size, language and an approximate location (country and city) derived from your IP address. Google Analytics 4 does not log or store IP addresses. We do not send your name, e-mail or any other identifying information to Google Analytics, and we have turned off the optional data-sharing settings in our Google Analytics account. We do not use Google Analytics for advertising, and we have not linked it to any advertising service.

Google processes this information on our behalf under its own terms; you can read how Google uses data at https://policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites. Google Analytics data is kept for the retention period set in our account and then deleted automatically.

You can opt out at any time: block cookies for tubeblock.app in your browser settings, use a browser or extension that blocks analytics, or install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on (https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout). The Website works the same way if you opt out.

We do not use other analytics or advertising tools (no Yandex Metrica, no Microsoft Clarity, no advertising pixels).

E-mail

If you write to info@tubeblock.app, we receive your e-mail address and whatever you include in the message. We use it only to answer you and to fix the problem you report. We keep the correspondence as long as needed for that purpose and for our records, and we delete it on request unless the law requires us to keep it.

Sharing of information

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We may disclose information only if the law requires it, or to protect our rights or the safety of users. Our hosting provider processes server logs on our behalf to run the Website.

Children

The Website and the Extension are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Because the Extension collects no personal information at all, it can be used in any household; parents remain responsible for supervising their children's use of YouTube.

Your rights

Depending on where you live (for example under the GDPR in the EU and UK, the CCPA in California, or the Personal Data (Privacy) Ordinance in Hong Kong), you may have the right to access, correct or delete personal data we hold about you, or to object to its processing. In practice the only personal data we may hold is server log entries and e-mails you sent us. To make a request, write to info@tubeblock.app.

Data stored by the Extension never reaches us, so you control it directly: open the Extension's settings to edit or export it, or remove the Extension to delete it.

International transfers

Our company is based in Hong Kong and our server may be located in another country. Where server logs or e-mails are processed outside your country, we take reasonable steps to protect them in line with this policy.

Security

We keep the Website on a maintained server served over HTTPS and limit access to its logs. The Extension keeps its data inside your browser's protected extension storage and stores the PIN only as a hash.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy, for example when the product or the services we use change. The current version is always on this page with its "Updated" date. Significant changes will be described here before they take effect.
